The Pennsylvania State University Libraries invites applications for the position Open Source Geospatial Analyst within the Research Informatics and Publishing Department. The Open Source Geospatial Analyst will work as a member of the Donald W. Hamer Center for Maps and Geospatial Information team to support open source software, open data, and web-mapping solutions to spatial problems in research, teaching and learning at The Pennsylvania State University. The successful candidate will provide expert guidance through one-on-one and small group consultation services, develop and deliver guest lectures and workshops, and will be active in the community of geospatial scholars and professionals at The University. The Analyst will advocate for open geospatial solutions to spatial problems and promote successes at the university. They will develop and complete independent and/or collaborative demonstration projects of broad interest and/or high impact to raise the profile of open source geospatial software, the use of open data and web-mapping applications, and/or the value of library print and digital geospatial information resources. The Research Informatics and Publishing Department (RePub) is a new, collaborative and innovative unit within The Pennsylvania State University Libraries. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred skills and abilities: Masters-level training and/or experience using open source geospatial tools and open data; Familiarity with the Open Source Geospatial Foundation, Open Geospatial Consortium and related initiatives. Required skills and abilities: Proficient skills using at least 1 open source geospatial software tool (e.g. QGIS, Mapbox etc.); Familiarity with open geospatial data sources and formats (e.g. OpenStreetMap, etc.); Working knowledge of at least one computer scripting language commonly used in open source and web-mapping software; Foundational understanding of geospatial data and geographic information systems consistent with at least an undergraduate-level of training and/or experience; Ability to work both independently and in small results oriented teams; Written and verbal communication skills consistent with an academic professional.
