Description

The Penn State Small Business Development Center (SBDC) seeks a full-time Event and Marketing Coordinator to develop, coordinate and present educational workshops and training, and manage promotional activity related to the SBDC and its programs. The ideal candidate exhibits a highly professional demeanor, creativity and comfort in a public-facing capacity. This position reports to the Penn State SBDC Director and is located off-campus at Innovation Park. In addition to planning events and creating related marketing materials, the Event Coordinator will facilitate the Center’s website and social media content. Identifies, develops, coordinates, markets, and delivers programming that responds to entrepreneurial and small business needs. Works occasional evening and/or weekend hours to assist with educational programs, represent the SBDC at networking events or support client promotions such as ribbon-cuttings. Manages all aspects of event planning and administration. This role includes major responsibilities for events to plan, execute, and assist in leading such as Global Entrepreneur Week that is a Penn State University-wide annual event. Determines target market and distribution for center publications. Acts as liaison with public agencies, governmental bodies, business associations, chambers of commerce, potential event sponsors and for-profit businesses in the preparation of specific events and center marketing strategies. Develops and manages program and event budgets. Creates, updates and monitors engaging social media and website content. Captures references to SBDC in newspapers, on other websites and in University publications. Provides monthly analytic reports and makes informed data-driven decisions to inform future social media content creation. Maintains online library of press releases, photos, video and responds to requests for publication. Excellent written and verbal communication, content editing, public speaking and proofreading. Interest in and passion for small business and community development efforts. Strong organizational and time management skills evidencing an ability to meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities. Proficiency in MS Office, Office 365, Zoom, Adobe products, PowerPoint and Publisher. Basic web editing, e-marketing, creative apps (such as video editing or meetup.com) and graphic design helpful. Commitment to engage and embrace diversity across all levels of entrepreneurial development stages, student interaction, professional partners and the communities served by the SBDC. We seek candidates who are able to demonstrate experience and ability to advance Invent Penn State and SBDC initiatives. This role reports to the Director of the Penn State SBDC. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or a related field preferred. Prior experience in marketing and training preferred; public or community relations experience preferred but not required. Experience writing marketing content for a variety of social media platforms preferred. Events may require local travel. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
