Description

Penn State Wilkes-Barre invites applications for a Lecturer (master’s level) or Assistant Teaching Professor (doctoral level) of Information Sciences and Technology. This is a full-time, fixed term appointment with an excellent possibility of reappointment. The initial appointment is for one year (36-week) to begin August 2020, or as negotiated. Responsibilities: Teach an average of four courses (approximately 12 credits) each semester. Courses will include introductory and advanced computer language, enterprise integration, data organization, and security risk analysis. The successful candidate will be committed to and experienced in using non-traditional delivery methods including, but not limited to, videoconferencing, online delivery and accelerated formats. Participate in professional organizations and in course, curriculum, and shared program development. Advise students, provide career guidance, and supervise internships. Involve students in undergraduate research activities. Participate in campus, university, and community service activities. Engage in activities to stay current in the discipline. Master of Science in Information Sciences/Cybersecurity, or closely related field; Ph.D. preferred. ABD will be considered if significant evidence of completion by August 2020 is provided. Candidate must demonstrate knowledge of and experience in enterprise integration, security risk analysis, and one or more of the following areas: Enterprise Architecture and Integration, including cloud computing and web stack; Cybersecurity, including cyber-defense and data-driven technologies, cloud security, adversarial reasoning, and information security risk analysis and management. Proficiency in the use and instruction of discrete mathematics, Java, API, XML, SQL, PHP, and UML are strongly preferred. Commitment to high quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Significant industry experience and prior college-level experience preferred. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important. Penn State Wilkes-Barre is one of more than 20 Penn State campuses statewide. It is a student-centered campus of approximately 500 students; about 20% are adult learners. Nine baccalaureate degrees are offered as well as the coursework for the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors. Students and faculty at Penn State Wilkes-Barre have all of the resources of a major research university at their disposal, but in a small college atmosphere with a low student/faculty ratio.
