Description

The Sonar Research and Development Division (SRDD) of the Undersea Systems Office (USO) within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Deputy Division Head to join our team. SRDD has a fully vertically integrated capability that includes the design, analysis, fabrication, testing, and fielding of SONAR transducers and systems. The Deputy’s primary role is to enhance the operational pace of the SRDD by coordinating and accelerating office logistics and facilitating internal communications. In addition, the Deputy will support technical aspects of the SRDD. Responsibilities include: Participate in Office and Division-level strategic, operational, technical, and administrative activities with, and on behalf of, the SRDD Head; balance labor planning across departments and projects; assist in the leadership, development, and management of certain staff or organizational elements as directed; secure funding and cultivate new sponsors; manage Department of Defense (DoD) and industry funded research projects; and develop projects within the SRDD. This position may be filled by Research Faculty or a Research and Development Engineer. Faculty rank will be commensurate with education level and experience. Typically requires a Master’s degree or equivalent and 10 year’s related experience. A Ph.D in Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering and 20 years of experience in Sonar System design, implementation, and transition is preferred. A proven track record in procurement and management of government and industry funded research projects as well as strong interpersonal, leadership, program management, and communication skills are necessary.
