Penn State Altoona invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. The Associate Dean holds the primary responsibility for all academic programs, program development, curricular review, faculty development, academic support services, and the budgetary administration for all units that fall under Academic Affairs. This position provides leadership and coordination for the four academic divisions at Penn State Altoona as well as Academic Advising and the Registrar’s Office. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs works as part of a team including the Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Policy and Planning and Division Heads in shaping academic strategy and policy. This position also represents Penn State Altoona on curricular and policy issues as a member of the university-wide Academic Council on Undergraduate Education. The Associate Dean reports directly to the Chancellor/Dean and acts as the senior administrative officer in the absence of the Chancellor/Dean. Candidates must possess a terminal degree and credentials appropriate for a tenured appointment as Full Professor. Successful candidates will have a strong record of academic administrative experience that demonstrates commitment to academic excellence and student success; support for shared governance and collegial leadership; appreciation of Penn State’s land-grant mission of teaching, research and service to the university, college, profession as well as our communities; and a thorough understanding of issues and trends affecting higher education. Penn State Altoona is a four-year baccalaureate institution and one of the stand-alone Colleges that make up the 24-campus Pennsylvania State University, Pennsylvania’s only land-grant university. Penn State Altoona offers 22 complete undergraduate major programs (a full list can be found at and the first two years of over 200 other majors that can be completed at University Park or another Penn State campus. Over 3,000 students as well as 500 faculty and staff comprise the Penn State Altoona community. Situated in the Allegheny Mountains of Central Pennsylvania, the surrounding area offers access to year-round outdoor activities. Penn State Altoona is part of a revitalizing downtown core with several pre-professional academic programs housed in five restored buildings there. Located just 40-miles south from the University Park campus, Penn State Altoona offers all the advantages of a small college teaching environment paired with the resources of a top-25 research university.
