Description

A non-tenure track Assistant Research Professor is available in Dr. Susan Hafenstein’s research lab within the Center for Structural Biology and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at The Pennsylvania State University. The Hafenstein Lab conducts state-of-the-art research in virus structure using cryo EM. Responsibilities will include day-to-day coordination of a team of research scientists that include postdocs, graduate students, technicians, and undergraduates; providing intellectual leadership in experimental design, execution, and interpretation of results; writing research grants and publications; quality assurance of scientific rigor, consistency, and record keeping. This person will be responsible for consultation and quality assurance of the data, troubleshooting and implementing new technologies and software, and will participate in collaborative interactions with researchers and vendors to provide consistent delivery of high quality, and timely, cost effective services. This position is expected to assist all aspects of the core cryo EM services, as well as the scholarly activities including research and education. Candidates must understand biochemistry, molecular biology, and/or biology principles at an advanced teaching level, have an advanced degree (Ph.D. or equivalent), at least three years of postdoctoral experience as a bioinformatics and a track record of publications in major journals.
