Description

Check the various areas of the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). Operate and monitor the WWTP both manually and by the supervisory control and acquisition system (SCADA). Adjust pumping rates, check gauges, tanks and chemical levels for the efficient operation of the WWTP. Monitor the methane gas levels in digesters. Determine and implement process control changes such as flow patterns and rates, chemical additions, etc. Notify supervisor or other appropriate agencies of drastic changes or emergencies. Operate equipment such as forklift, sludge press, lawn tractors, snowplows, snow blowers, etc. Determine pump pressure and flow rates and monitor surge tank level, lateral operations and other activities between the WWTP and spray irrigation sites. Operate and monitor anoxic system by adding and adjusting chemical feeds as needed, determining the pumps to operate, adjusting the return sludge rate and wasting rates, etc. Ensure the nitrification system is operating efficiently and that the proper levels of ammonia and nitrates are being removed from the wastewater. Monitor and report problems with the potable water system. Maintain shift operation logs for the WWTP and spray irrigation area. Direct the work of lower grade employees. Assist and instruct them in their plant duties. Safeguard plant equipment; initiate emergency repairs, as needed. Monitor security cameras. Assist mechanic with repair work and assist in upkeep of equipment and cleaning of buildings. Collect samples throughout plant as directed, and perform required lab testing such as, residual chlorine, solids and settleability. Change charts on recorders and document meter readings; make necessary calculations. Notify supervisor of chemicals and supplies to be ordered. Maintain operator station in a clean and orderly fashion. Drive University vehicle as required. Job Requirements: Requires the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of adjustable measuring instruments and the training generally applicable in a particular or specialized occupation. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training. Ability to use, interpret and check the reports, forms, records and compare with data. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Requires PA DEP Operator Class B and E with Subclass 1 and 4. Over 1 and up to and including 2 years of effective experience. Shift: Various Days Off: Various NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS.
