Description

Penn State Fayette, the Eberly Campus, is seeking a full-time Academic Advising Manager 2, reporting to the Chief Academic Officer. Located in southwestern Pennsylvania, Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus is part of a multi-campus public research university enjoying a world-wide reputation for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. As a small campus, we offer both traditional and nontraditional students an intimate and supportive learning environment with strong ties to the surrounding community. At the same time, the students have direct access to the extensive educational resources and services of all of The Pennsylvania State University. The selected candidate will oversee all aspects of academic advising for the Fayette campus under the direction of the Chief Academic Officer, monitor student progress, oversee the assistance of students in academic warning and suspension, field questions from families about advising issues and student progress, handle complex advising problems elevated from faculty advisers and campus administrators. Responsibilities include: advise exploratory students, manage enrollment decisions in the Division of Undergraduate Studies (DUS), and provide consultation for admission of conditionally accepted students at the campus; share leadership and management responsibilities for the Student Success Center; oversee all aspects of New Student Orientation (NSO) including but not limited to developing content, training NSO advisers, managing NSO budget, determining appropriate NSO dates, planning the schedule, advising students, developing and presenting materials for parents, families and students; work with other campus departments to develop advising policies and procedures related to admissions and retention and work with DUS coordinators across the University to develop solutions to shared challenges; write and revise campus advising policy and direct advising assessment; work closely with faculty advisers to include direct and administer training, develop adviser training content, organize training sessions for new advisers, and serve as a point of contact for faculty and staff with questions related to advising and related academic policies; maintain a program of continuous improvement for advising staff and faculty advisers through direct communication and timely programming as well as manage both the DUS and NSO budgets; supervise and evaluate one or more direct reports plus graduate student interns; use available University data systems to drive processes and recommend changes to related areas plus serve as primary resource for the Starfish Retention Solutions system; serve on relevant campus, college, and University committees; demonstrate proven ability to network and develop successful collaborative partnerships to benefit students. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher in an education or social science related discipline or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in developing and successfully implementing student retention processes is preferred. Additional years of academic advising experience in a multidisciplinary environment and supervisory experience are preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with the use of student information and advising/retention systems (preferably PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Starfish, or similar). This is a fixed-term position funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
