Environmental Justice Intern for September 2019 to May/August 2020 - Penn State’s Sustainability Institute is looking to hire a Penn State Student Intern who will work from September 2019 to May 2020 with the possibility of working through August 2020. This student will assist the Institute’s efforts to support environmental justice education and outreach. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate knowledge of environmental justice and sustainability and a record of engagement on the topic. Experience with geographic information systems software is desired but not necessary. Duties may include, but are not limited to: researching and reporting on the history and current state of environmental justice, assessing and connecting Penn State’s formal and informal environmental justice programs and networks, convening discussions or deliberations among different individuals and organizations, creating educational materials, planning events, tracking metrics, and collaborating with Institute interns and staff as well as university offices, student organizations, faculty, and community partners. The successful candidate will: Be a team player, with a GPA above 3.0, and superb written, interpersonal and oral communication skills. Must be a quick learner, able to manage and organize multiple sources of information, meet deadlines and enjoy a fast-paced work environment. The applicant should have an ability to synthesize multiple sources of information and perspectives into reports summarizing outcomes and benefits. An interest in and knowledge about environmental justice and sustainability issues and concepts is mandatory. This paid internship will be for up to 10-15 hours weekly during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
