Position available immediately for a Research Technician in the Read Laboratory that studies bacterial antibiotic resistance evolution. Projects in the laboratory will involve biosafety level 2 work with bacterial pathogens. The successful applicant will perform laboratory research under the supervision of postdoctoral researchers. Experiments will include the following techniques: preparation of agar plates, bacterial culture, and preparing bacterial glycerol stocks. General lab maintenance, dishwashing and autoclaving, preparation of stock solutions, and data management will be required. Participation in lab meetings is expected. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor’s level degree in the biological sciences is desirable. Additional desirable skills include expertise in the above techniques, experience working in a laboratory environment, experience in bacteriology, and familiarity with data management. Must work effectively in a team setting, be able to communicate well, and keep clear records. Specific skills that are necessary also include data management using common software programs. The successful applicant must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work both semi-independently and collaboratively in a research team, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with team members and the PI. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of re-funding.
