Description

The Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese (https://sip.la.psu.edu/) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in second language acquisition/bilingualism at the assistant professor level. The Spanish Linguistics section in our department derives its strength from the cohesion of its faculty, which rests on the commitment to empirical inquiry and the triangulation of evidence from a variety of approaches to linguistic analysis. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in second language neurocognitive methods (electroencephalography-EEG), in any area of linguistic study, including phonology, morphology/morphosyntax, syntax, semantics/pragmatics. The successful candidate will also be welcomed into the rich collaborative environment of the Center for Language Science (https://cls.la.psu.edu/). The position requires a commitment to developing a strong research record of publications, as well as undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring, and participation in the full range of faculty responsibilities. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity. Ph.D. in Spanish or related field in hand at the time of appointment is required. Native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English is also required. This position will start in August 2020. Interested candidates must submit an online application at https://psu.jobs, and should include a letter of application detailing research and teaching, a CV, and two writing samples as attachments to the application. Please include in the CV the names of three references. Review of applications will begin November 01 and will continue until the position is filled. For inquiries about the position, contact Professor Giuli Dussias at pdussias@psu.edu (please use the subject line: SLA Search).
