The Computing Services Department (CSD) at The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking an Information Technology Support Specialist who will be integrated into the PC Support Group and will provide computing support for all ARL personnel. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Provide 1st, 2nd, or 3rd tier PC support and diagnose/resolve problems with computer hardware, peripherals, computer configurations, and software; end-user computing support, to include providing orientation, computing Q&A assistance, and basic application support for ARL end-users; computer build and configuration by applying ARL build/configuration to systems and customizing per end-user requirements; infrastructure/cable plant maintenance, to include patching computer/phone network ports to switches, as well as other cable infrastructure related maintenance; hardware/software evaluation and recommendation for both internal ITS and external customers; participate in process documentation and improvement efforts; and participate in endpoint management and administration functions. This role will have primary responsibility for supporting our video. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An Associate’s degree in Information Sciences and Technology, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering is desired. Experience supporting the following is preferred: Videoconferencing, Polycom, Windows domain configuration; end user applications, such as Microsoft Office, Adobe products, and other common engineering applications; disk/file/e-mail encryption and administration of Macintosh and/or Linux systems; support, administration of networked Windows systems; diagnosis and repair of computer systems, and troubleshooting issues with network configurations from the endpoint. Excellent customer service skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills, are required. This position also requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle background check will be required, in addition to standard background checks.
