The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position to teach senior-level capstone design courses in building design and transportation infrastructure design. The building design course includes both structural and geotechnical engineering components, while the transportation infrastructure design course includes components of transportation engineering, geotechnical and materials engineering, and drainage design. Capstone courses are intended to help students prepare for a professional career by applying engineering fundamentals and decision processes to develop practical design solutions, effective written and oral communication skills, and teamwork skills. In addition to developing and delivering capstone courses, opportunities exist to teach other related courses in the structural, geotechnical, or transportation engineering curricula. The CEE Department is a vibrant and dynamic unit with 35 faculty members, 17 research scientists, annual research expenditures of $16M, and U.S. News and World Report undergraduate program rankings of 14th for civil engineering and 17th for environmental engineering. Department faculty members have received prestigious honors including many professional society awards, 9 NSF CAREER awards, and one National Academy of Engineering (NAE) membership. Applicants should hold, at a minimum, a Master’s degree in civil engineering at the start of the appointment. In addition, the ideal candidate should have a broad knowledge of civil engineering practice, with focus on structural and/or transportation engineering, have five years of related work experience, and be licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.E.). Demonstrated teaching experience through academic courses, professional conference presentations, or related activities is desirable.
