The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a tenure-line faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in broad areas relevant to geotechnical engineering, geomechanics, geochemistry, and geomaterials. In addition, applicants focusing on thermodynamic-kinetic, rheological, and data-driven modeling are invited. The ideal candidate should demonstrate intellectual depth and promise for high-quality research as well as a commitment to teaching excellence. Individuals with demonstrated abilities to collaborate across disciplines are encouraged to apply. The CEE Department is a vibrant and dynamic unit with 35 faculty members, 17 research scientists, annual research expenditures of $16M, and U.S. News and World Report graduate program rankings of 21st for civil engineering and 26th for environmental engineering. Department faculty members have received prestigious honors including many professional society awards, 9 NSF CAREER awards, and one NAE membership. Excellent opportunities exist for candidates to interact with faculty on multidisciplinary projects through the Penn State Materials Research Institute, Institute for CyberScience, Larson Transportation Institute, Institutes of Energy and the Environment, Sustainability Institute, Center for Geomechanics, Geofluids, and Geohazards, and the Civil Infrastructure Testing and Evaluation Laboratory, among others. The new hire will teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and is expected to enhance the department’s existing curriculum.
