Penn State office of Physical Plant-Commonwealth Services (CWS) supports the facility needs of the University’s 28 campuses and research centers across the Commonwealth and is responsible for supplementing staff at each location by providing advice on all facility needs; establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies, practices and procedures to ensure consistency in quality; managing all construction; assisting in defining, prioritizing and managing major maintenance projects. CWS is seeking a self-motivated individual with organizational and self-management skills experienced in construction project coordination and inspection. The primary focus of this position will be for Commonwealth Campuses in DuBois, Altoona, Hazleton, Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. Responsible for: Assisting Project Managers in project development and management of University functions at various campus locations across the state to include new construction, renovations, alterations, and major maintenance; provide coordination and construction inspection services at all projects within assigned area from inception to completion; coordinate internal and external architectural, engineering, and other professional resources; control schedules to ensure timely completion; control quality and costs; communicate with customers and staff; evaluate University facilities and grounds, making recommendations for solutions; monitor campus activities for compliance with all state, federal, and municipal codes and regulations; participate in facility condition assessments and assist in the development of major maintenance needs and priorities; and manage planning, design and construction of small projects. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in Architecture, Engineering, Management or related discipline or higher plus eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate must be dynamic have a positive attitude, exceptional customer services skills; excellent interpersonal, organizational written and oral communication skills, ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet required deadlines, be able to work independently, embrace new opportunities, problem-solving skills, teamwork abilities and demonstrate a genuine appreciation of working with diverse audiences, be guided by ethical decision-making, and demonstrate the ability to be a flexible and collaborative team member. Computer proficiency, Microsoft Office 365 Suite and other business software is required. This job will require significant travel and overnight trips weekly. Professional licensure as an Engineer or Architect is not required. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
