Description

The Experimental Support Department in the Energy Science and Power Systems Division of the Undersea Systems Office (USO) within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking two Mechanical Engineering Support Specialists to support their supervising technical/engineering staff. Responsibilities Include: Support the supervising technical/engineering staff with the design, fabrication, modification, assembly, and testing of mechanical components and systems as well as design, drafting, fabrication and inspection of test fixtures and simple parts; fabricate, inspect, calibrate, and assemble precision components and instrumentation into subsystems; configure test set-ups, data compilation, and documentation; operate, maintain, and repair test facilities and equipment supporting test facility operations; and operate computers used for data acquisition and control, CAD, and Microsoft Office. This job will be filled as a level 1, level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. An Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Engineering/Specialized Technology and at least one year of related experience is desired. Preferred experience areas include: MIG, TIG, and stick welding; Microsoft Office; AutoCAD or similar programs; and LabView. Prior military experience highly desired. This position requires working in an industrial area with large, heavy, noisy, high energy equipment. Proficiency operating various machining equipment and hand tools, detailed mechanical assembly, precision measurement, drawing interpretation, and procedure adherence; and familiarity with standard mechanical troubleshooting tools and techniques. Travel to remote testing facilities may be required. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply.
