Penn State University’s College of Engineering and Sustainability Institute seek to hire an energetic, dynamic, and talented individual to support a university-wide collaborative program in sustainability assessment modeling at the food-energy-water nexus. Specifically, this scholar will work with researchers across the university to develop integrated models to describe the biophysical, socioeconomic, and policy components of food-energy-water systems in defined areas of interest, and validate these models at local, regional, and national scales. The position includes extensive data analytics, systems modeling, management of personnel in interdisciplinary teams, and the preparation of high-quality publications and proposals. Preferred Qualifications include: Ph.D. in a sustainability-related field (ex., Agricultural Economics; Agricultural Engineering; Demography; Environmental Engineering/Science; Natural Resource Management; Sociology; etc.); Experience in sustainability assessment, such as: life cycle analysis; complex systems modeling; supply chain analysis; political-industrial ecology; socio-ecological systems; and decision making under uncertainty; Experience with data collection and community engagement in developed and developing regions a plus, as travel opportunities may be available; Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; Successful track record in publishing and proposal writing. The position may begin as early as November 2019, with a latest possible start date January 13, 2020. This is a one-year appointment with potential for renewal.
