A Scholar for the Penn State Student Engagement Network, Faculty Academy is seeking a paid Student Videographer to provide leadership and technical expertise to a two-year research study beginning Fall 2019, running through Spring 2021.The anticipated time commitment by semester may vary but is estimated to be in the range of 5 - 10 hours per week. Ideally, the selected candidate will be a current sophomore or junior and can commit to the four (4) academic semesters to see the project through from start to finish. In addition, the select candidate should have: documentary-style video production, editing, and storytelling experience to create a compelling mini documentary on the research study, including interviews with the Principle Investigator (Dr. Tom C. Hogan), research sponsors, students, faculty, staff, and recent alums at The Pennsylvania State University and collaborative research institutions. Also, we desire the creation of short 30 – 60 second videos that can be posted on the Student Engagement Network website. Necessary skills include: Interviewing and footage capturing with a 1-person crew; Proper interview lighting, sound capture, and composition; MediaTech equipment knowledge, including reserving gear from MediaTech; Adobe Premiere Pro editing proficiency; Transcribing interviews; Scripting with interviews. Applicants are required to submit cover letter, resume, previous video work as evidence of their skills and experience by Wednesday, September 18, 2019. Research Study Objectives: We seek to understand the potential contributions of the arts in inspiring students in higher education domestically and internationally to become psychologically involved, connected to and passionate about learning. This research will create and disseminate knowledge specifically pertaining to the arts, student engagement and engaged scholarship by linking select theories to effective strategies, policies, practices, tools, metrics, outcomes and impacts. Also, storytelling will be employed as captured by video to document the student experience throughout the life cycle of the research project. We also intend to document interviews and focus groups with study subjects – students, faculty, staff and recent alumni (i.e., graduated with 5 years) - at The Pennsylvania State University and collaborative research partners including domestic and international institutions of higher education.
