The Visual Analytics Department in the Visualization and Decision Support Division of The Communications, Information, and Navigation Office (CINO) within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking a Software Developer to join our team as a Research and Development Engineer. In this position, you will be joining a dynamic team of developers and engineers that are dedicated to building data analytics and visualization tools to support the Department of Defense (DoD) by using agile processes to create solutions to new and novel complex problems. Responsibilities include: Designing, developing, debugging, deploying, and maintaining software systems that can process large amounts of complex data and turn it into actionable information. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (Professional Engineer license accepted in lieu of Bachelor's degree) or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Sciences, or Software Engineering is desired. Preferred experience areas include: Hadoop, NoSQL, and traditional SQL interfaces. An active security clearance is highly desired. Experience requirements include: Software development and Java Programming skills. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
