Description

Provide analytical support to the Graduate School through retrieval of data from institutional databases and various internal and external sources to assist in making decisions relevant to graduate education across the University. Participate in the development of Graduate School strategic goals and objectives, and assessment of progress in meeting strategic goals. Meet with Graduate School, college and graduate program administrators to determine information needs related to graduate program quality and assessment and to coordinate projects and resolve issues. Prepare standard and/or custom reports summarizing transactional data, enrollment trends, new student metrics, program quality measures and other data for review by executives, and internal and external stakeholders that describe and explain current state, predict future state based upon trends, and propose changes to optimize future outcomes. Create analytical tools or systems, including design of related databases, spreadsheets, dashboards and other work products that incorporate advanced data visualization capabilities, allow for decentralized use of analytics and maximize capability for data discovery by end users, including University, Graduate School, and college administrators for graduate education, graduate program heads and graduate/research faculty. Conduct in-depth, high level studies and analyses and prepare reports and/or presentations on major Graduate School initiatives. Monitor and evaluate internal information systems and databases, policies and business practices that impact graduate education and recommend modifications as appropriate. Provide internal support and serve as liaison for data exchange with external individuals or groups, including, but not limited to, the Council of Graduate Schools, Big 10 Academic Alliance Graduate Deans group, AAUDE, and annual NSF Survey of Earned Doctorates. Develop and conduct web-based surveys with related databases of internal and external constituents, including data analysis, summarization and reporting. Conduct training related to data analysis, interpretation and utilization, including use of analytical tools developed. May supervise and direct the work of lower level staff. Extended evening and weekend hours required at times and are an expectation of the position in order to meet project deadlines, requests for reports with short lead times, external and internal reporting needs, etc. Knowledge of information technology, statistical analysis and research methodologies are essential, and of business management helpful to this position in order to support strategic, data-based decision-making. Experience with Tableau and/or Microsoft Power BI is helpful. Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are also essential. This position reports jointly to the Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate School, and the Director of Network Operations and Data Systems for the Graduate School. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Master's degree in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, statistics or related field is preferred.
