Description

The Database Team in Infrastructure, a division of Penn State Information Technology (IT), is looking for a customer and service-oriented Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator. The successful candidate will provide support for Penn State's Auxiliary and Business Services databases, as well as support for other enterprise databases. The candidate must ensure proper use and administration of database and related software on various platforms and maintain optimum software performance and security via proper database management system configuration and testing of software patches. Database administrator duties include routine backup and recovery of databases, database administration, disaster recovery planning, data replication, physical database design, performance monitoring and tuning, administrative programming and scripting, and efficient T-SQL coding. This job must ensure system availability and reliability, and provide support to developers in the use of database and related software. The individual will participate in the evaluation and testing of new database products and be able to provide on-call support on a rotating basis. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience as a production SQL Server DBA is required, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also necessary. Experience with SSIS, AlwaysOn, PowerShell, and Azure Cloud is a plus. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
