Operate trucks, tractors, power mowers and other grounds equipment to cut grass, weeds, and trim lawns; also grading. Plant, transplant, prune, weed, spray, cultivate trees, grass, shrubbery. Fertilize and seed lawns as required. Rake and remove brush, leaves, grass clippings and other debris from grounds, walks, parking areas, and roadways, and other University property. Sweep walks, driveways, parking areas, etc.; clean catch basins and road drains. Dig holes, trenches, postholes; clean drainage lines, etc. Assist in maintaining athletic areas by marking fields, erecting goal posts and bleachers, etc. Paint benches, fences, guard rails, sign posts, fire hydrants, refuse containers, traffic lines, etc.; also, interior walls, woodwork, shelves, etc. Operate mechanical spray painting equipment. Remove snow and ice as directed; spread chemicals, cinders, sawdust and other anti-skid materials on walks, roadways and parking areas; operate large and small snow plows and blowers. Perform routine maintenance on trucks, tractors, and other gasoline driven equipment, including minor adjustments, lubrication, oil changing, etc., sharpen lawn mower blades. Assist Lead, Maintenance Mechanic in mechanical and building maintenance, as directed. Load and unload trucks; check shipments received against delivery slips for accuracy; inform supervisor of damage or missing items; place shipment in designated storage area. Assist in setting up designated areas for various functions as directed. Move furniture, equipment and materials, as required. Check equipment in buildings, and report malfunctioning equipment to supervisor. Clean assigned areas of buildings including hallways, stairs, offices, classrooms, laboratories, toilet rooms, stockrooms, lounges, utility rooms, etc., using methods and materials specified by supervisor. Mop, sweep, clean and wax floors. Wash windows and shades. Operate various types of janitorial equipment such as floor buffing machines, vacuums, etc. Unlock and lock building entrances and room doors; close and lock windows; turn out lights; replace burned out light bulbs. Report needed repairs on or about buildings or grounds to supervisor. Job Requirements: Requires the use of simple writing, adding, subtracting, whole numbers and the carrying out of instructions; and the use of fixed gauges and direct reading instruments and devices in which interpretation is not required. 6 to 9 months of effective experience. Shift: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Days Off: Sunday, Monday NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS.
