The joint laboratory of Professors J. Martin Bollinger, Jr. and Carsten Krebs in the Chemistry Department at The Pennsylvania State University seeks to fill a postdoctoral research position in their collaborative metallobiochemistry research group. In this appointment the postdoctoral scholar will report to each of the PIs and will be collaborating on several of the projects in their research groups. Research projects include those focusing on biosynthesis of natural-product drugs and/or sugar and nucleotide metabolism. The candidate will synthesize and characterize substrates and inhibitors, purify enzymes, construct and purify site-directed variants, analyze their products by NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, carry out combined kinetic and spectroscopic experiments to probe enzyme mechanisms, and analyze and publish the results. They will also have responsibilities for laboratory maintenance consistent with the position of postdoctoral scholar. A successful candidate will have obtained the Ph.D. degree within the last two years and will show evidence of exceptional accomplishments in one or more area of chemistry, biochemistry, or molecular biology research while earning his/her academic degrees. Preferred areas of expertise include natural products biosynthesis, metallobiochemistry, enzymology, spectroscopy, and synthetic chemistry. Interested and qualified applicants should submit applications electronically and should include a CV with a list of publications and a cover letter describing your background, prior training and interests. Following a screening of these initial application materials, appropriate candidates will be contacted by email and asked to arrange for letters of recommendation to be sent so that they might be considered further. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with possibility of re-funding. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position has been filled.
