Description

The Sports Concussion and Virtual Reality/Traumatic Brain Injury Research Laboratory, in the Department of Kinesiology, College of Health and Human Development, is looking for an experienced, qualified part-time Research Assistant. Primary responsibilities include recruitment of subjects (normal volunteers and student-athletes with concussions via Penn State Athletic Medicine), help with conducting subject interviews, assistance with neuropsychological testing (both computerized and pencil/paper), EEG, and computerized balance testing. Other responsibilities include monitoring the safety and confidentiality of the project and its subjects; preparing reports summarizing data; and meeting with appropriate individuals to discuss data and ensure consistent interpretation of results. In addition, the successful candidate will coordinate project paper-work, including Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, amendments, continuations, and renewals. The successful candidate should possess necessary computer skills, especially in the use of EEG and VR software applications, and data management. Training will be provided to the right candidate, especially related to combining VR and brain imaging testing modalities. Appropriate background and experience are essential for this position. Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred in a science-related field. Experience dealing with medical professionals and neurological patients is essential for this position. The work schedule will be 24 hours per week. Primary work location will be at the Recreation Building, University Park; however, testing of athletes may require the candidate to work at other University Park locations.
