Description

The College of Agricultural Sciences is seeking a 48-week, fixed-term, non-tenure track Assistant Research Professor position in Biomaterials research. The position is a one-year, 100% research appointment contingent on funding available and may be renewed depending on availability of funds. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in natural polysaccharide production, purification, characterization, chemical modification, and use in composite material systems. This includes detailed research experience involving cellulose, purified nano cellulose, starch, and other polysaccharides. Expertise in microbial exopolysaccharides is also desired, including bacterial cellulose, as is the use of plasticizers and surfactants in material design. The candidate should have experience with multiple materials characterization techniques including IR spectroscopy, X-Ray diffraction, electron microscopy, optical microscopy including florescence labeling, atomic force microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, calorimetry and mechanical analysis including dynamic analysis. Experience working in diverse multidisciplinary teams is also essential, as is the ability to mentor others, including students. The applicant should have demonstrated experience in preparing journal articles and materials for patent applications as well as the ability to prepare and provide compelling oral presentations to diverse technical and non-technical audiences. The demonstrated ability to work independently is essential. Qualifications: A Ph.D. in engineering with a research emphasis on biological materials; strong spoken and written communications skills; experience working in interdisciplinary groups; mentoring experience. The successful candidate must have completed all degree requirements by the appointment date.
