The Department of Campus Recreation at Penn State is seeking a part-time Student Aquatics Manager to join our team for Fall 2019 (Spring 2020 possible) to assist in the daily management of Aquatics Programming. The Manager is responsible for providing leadership, innovation and the highest ethical standards while assisting in the management and compliance of hiring, on boarding, information tracking and payroll for aquatics within Campus Recreation. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Aquatics Programs. The Manager must understand departmental goals, vision and direction and be able to educate student staff on what this looks like as a student employee with Campus Recreation. Job Responsibilities include: Provide leadership and guidance through recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling and retaining aquatics staff. Develop, implement and instruct aquatics initial training for all aquatics`s employees. Assist in planning innovative and engaging programming and assisting in the development, implementation and assessment of the event. Assist with the inventory and reporting databases for student staff needs for all aquatics employees. Process bi-weekly payroll in accordance with Campus Recreation and University policy and procedures. Collaborate with Student Affairs marketing staff on marketing efforts, provide guidance and direction in the development of short and long-term aquatics programming plans, and other duties as assigned. This position requires independent work on complex assignments, while reviewing progress and updating the Assistant Director of Aquatics as appropriate. Knowledge of student development principles and ability to provide leadership and development opportunities for the general student body and student employees. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication (oral and written) skills are essential. Must be able to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and hold student staff accountable. Attention to detail and good judgment are essential requirements. The successful candidate will have the willingness to lead and work in a team-based environment as well as an eagerness to support and engage with all departmental initiatives and efforts and within the Division of Student Affairs. The ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of student employees and participants is essential. Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides recreation, activity and adventure programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the newly expanded and renovated 300,000 square foot Intramural Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the 700-acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center, the White Building Recreation Center, and Hepper Fitness Center. The McCoy Natatorium is an 80,000 square foot facility containing three bodies of water: 6 lane, 25 yard competition pool, 6 lane 25 meter recreational pool and a diving well with springboard and 1 and 3 meter platforms. McCoy plays host to local, recreational and varsity swim, dive and water polo matches, informal recreational swimming, diving, water exercise and BOGAFit interval and yoga classes, a full youth and adult swim lesson program and special events such as canoe battleship, and dive in movies. During the summer months the Penn State Outdoor Pool serves campus via informal recreation, swim lessons and plays host to several athletic camps and area groups. White Building Recreation Center, located in the center of campus, is a 180,000 square foot facility, containing a 4,500 square foot aquatics area with a 5 lane, 25-yard pool used for informal recreational swimming and BOGAFit interval and yoga classes.
