Description

The School of Public Policy at The Pennsylvania State University seeks to hire an Assistant Professor with a research agenda focusing on social policy. The policy area is open, and preference will be given to those studying how policies reduce or exacerbate disparities among racial/ethnic, gender, socioeconomic status, or other dimensions. Exceptional scholars may qualify for an early career professorship, which provides research and travel funds for its holder. The start date for the position is August 2020. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in public policy or a related social science field (e.g. sociology, demography, or political science) by August 2020. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated ability for conducting high-quality research; a track-record of or potential for securing external funding; demonstrated teaching excellence; a willingness to help mentor graduate students; and a willingness to participate in service to the school, university and public policy field. In addition, successful candidates must have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable and diverse campus community. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work with a network of social scientists working in social policy across campus. Joint appointments in sociology, criminology, African American studies or other related units are welcome, and other opportunities are available with the Social Science Research Institute, the Population Research Institute, the Administrative Data Accelerator, or the Federal Statistical Research Data Center at Penn State. The School of Public Policy at Penn State (University Park) was created in 2018 in response to the call in the university strategic plan for Penn State to address complex global issues. With strong social sciences, data analytics and sciences, Penn State is well-positioned to be a leader in public policy. Currently the program has an MPP degree, which welcomed its first cohort of students in fall 2019.
