The Gift Officer – Grateful Patient Program manages the process of identifying, qualifying, personally soliciting and cultivating a rolling portfolio of patients and families who have demonstrated an interest in supporting the work of the Penn State Hershey Medical Center and the Penn State College of Medicine. The Gift Officer will solicit funds to support research, patient care, education, and community health from College of Medicine alumni, grateful patients and community members. The Gift Officer works closely with colleagues within the Penn State Hershey team to coordinate prospect management activity; specifically, the gift officer will identify, cultivate and solicit potential donors via phone, email, letter, and/or personal visits in an effort to raise incremental revenue for Penn State Hershey. With the emphasis on personal contacts, the Gift Officer will identify and qualify prospects, schedule donor visits, solicit prospects for increased annual giving commitments, make leadership level asks, move constituents toward annual leadership and major gift solicitation, prepare and submit proposals, steward donors, and record activity and track results. Keep current with and be able to convey information about Penn State Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine so as to effectively cultivate, solicit and steward constituents. Produce analysis of personal solicitation effectiveness as well as overall analysis of prospect management activity for the team. Develop a working knowledge of the fundraising database and other information and tracking systems to effectively update and manage progress toward personal solicitation goals, including donor visits and contacts. The Gift Officer will conduct other duties as may be assigned. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Strong oral and written communications skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and analytical skills. Ability to work with a variety of constituencies, including donors, volunteers, patients, and staff. Is someone who is both team and goal-oriented. Must be able to complete projects within deadlines and be detail-oriented. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to successfully plan and achieve short-term and long-term fundraising goals. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated. Requires travel and flexible schedule, including some weekend and evening work. This position requires that the successful candidate operate a motor vehicle as part of their job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. This is a fixed-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with excellent possibility of re-funding.
