The Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences at Penn State University is seeking applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Research Professor to join our Metabolomics Core Facility and a dynamic team of scientists pursuing metabolism and metabolomics research. The successful candidate will be a MS or PhD trained scientist with hands-on experience of mass spectrometry (LC-MS and GC-MS), and sample preparation for chemical analyses, and NMR spectroscopy. Candidates must have demonstrated experience with operating high field nuclear magnetic resonance and high-resolution mass spectrometers as well as analyzing data obtained from them in the context of a metabolomics experiment. Candidates should have a strong publication record, be on the cusp of obtaining their own independent research funding. Exceptionally qualified candidates must be highly motivated with demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral). Evidence of project and time management skills is essential. Additionally, it is expected that selected candidates will contribute to both scientific papers originating from the Metabolomics Facility, and to existing efforts to obtain further funding through a growing portfolio of research grants and center grant proposals. Attendance at conferences and presenting of research findings will be expected. Duties will include, but are not limited to: Direct, provide training, develop new and execute existing protocols. Assist users; understand quality of their material before and during data collection. Maintain approved use rates and liaise with external users in the creation of Academic Research Service Orders. In conjunction with others, they will devise, modify and optimize protocols specific to sample and/or analytical goals. Record and report experimental results in a timely and thorough manner and communicate well with other PIs and research staff. The Candidate will be working closely with both Dr. Andrew Patterson and the Huck Institutes Metabolomics Core Facility.
