Professor J. Martin Bollinger, Jr. in the Department of Chemistry, at The Pennsylvania State University, seeks to fill a Research Technologist 3/4 position in his metallobiochemistry research groups. In this appointment, the selected candidate will be involved in an NIH-funded project on bacterial ribonucleotide reductases. Specifically, the individual will be responsible for the culture of bacteria that express these enzymes, purify proteins from these cultures, analyze the proteins for integrity/activity, prepare samples for electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, and perform a technique developed for this project called “deep mutational scanning.” The successful candidate will also have responsibilities for laboratory maintenance and supervision of undergraduate researchers. The candidate will have shown evidence of accomplishments in one or more area of chemistry, biochemistry, or molecular biology research since earning his/her highest degree. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree preferred) or higher plus seven years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Preferred areas of expertise include microbial molecular biology, recombinant DNA techniques, and protein biochemistry.
