Description

Professor J. Martin Bollinger, Jr. in the Department of Chemistry, at The Pennsylvania State University, seeks to fill a Research Technologist 3/4 position in his metallobiochemistry research groups. In this appointment, the selected candidate will be involved in an NIH-funded project on bacterial ribonucleotide reductases. Specifically, the individual will be responsible for the culture of bacteria that express these enzymes, purify proteins from these cultures, analyze the proteins for integrity/activity, prepare samples for electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, and perform a technique developed for this project called “deep mutational scanning.” The successful candidate will also have responsibilities for laboratory maintenance and supervision of undergraduate researchers. The candidate will have shown evidence of accomplishments in one or more area of chemistry, biochemistry, or molecular biology research since earning his/her highest degree. Following a screening of these initial application materials, appropriate candidates will be contacted by email and asked to arrange for letters of recommendation to be sent so that they might be considered further. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position has been filled. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree preferred) or higher plus seven years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Preferred areas of expertise include microbial molecular biology, recombinant DNA techniques, and protein biochemistry. Interested and qualified applicants should submit applications electronically and should include a CV with a list of publications and a cover letter describing her/his background, prior training and interests. This is a fixed term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with a possibility of renewal.
