The Department of Public Health Sciences is seeking an Ancillary Health Care Technologist to serve as a part-time exercise trainer to assist patients enrolled in the REJOIN study. REJOIN is a clinical trial in which we are investigating the effects of exercise and education on relieving joint pain and improving adherence to hormonal therapy medication prescribed as part of breast cancer treatment. The primary duties will include becoming trained in standardized exercise and education curriculum (called Fit and Strong), assisting with patient recruitment, conducting one-on-one consultations with older female patients, leading group exercise sessions (including both aerobic activity and strength training) at least twice weekly and also leading education sessions to teach breast cancer survivors about exercise guidelines, planning for exercise, and strategies for using exercise to relieve symptoms. The trainers will be part of a research team, so their comfort with following scripted activities, taking attendance, collecting exercise logs and providing them to the research team, answering exercise-related questions from participants, and, when necessary, calling participants to check on their progress, is necessary. This is a part-time position working up to 20 hours per week.
