Description

Penn State Mont Alto invites applications for a fixed-term Instructor position to teach in the Associate and Bachelor of Science in Information Sciences and Technology (IST) programs beginning January 2020 or as negotiated. Successful applicants should have at a minimum an earned M.S. in Information Sciences and Technology or a closely related field, Ph.D. is a plus. Experience as a practicing professional in an information science and/or technology field a plus. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student -centered environment is desired. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Prior college-level and online teaching experience preferred. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important. The successful applicant will teach introductory and upper-level courses for the Information Sciences and Technology (IST) department. The courses require a strong understanding of networking essentials and security, network administration and advanced network administration technology, PC hardware basics, and contemporary "network-centric" design and development topics such as web stack and cloud application development. Additional duties are to advise students and provide career guidance; collaborate in recruitment and retention of 1st students; participate in campus, university, and community service activities; engage in activities to stay current in the discipline. The expectation is that the successful applicant will use traditional, hybrid and online delivery methods as needed, and teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed. Penn State Mont Alto is one of more than 20 Penn State campuses state-wide. It is a student-centered campus of approximately 1000 students; about 25% are adult learners. The campus is located in south central Pennsylvania in a rural setting adjacent to the Michaux State Forest. The coursework for the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors is offered, as well as eight baccalaureate degrees and seven associate degrees, including Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at the associate and bachelor degree levels. Students and faculty at Penn State Mont Alto have all the resources of a major research university at their disposal, but in small college atmosphere. Class sizes are small, and the student/faculty ratio is low, so students can receive much individual attention. Our faculty members are committed to providing a high-quality educational experience to their students and are actively engaged in research.
