The Department of Chemical Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University seeks an experienced professional to develop and manage a program involving workforce development, student programming, and outreach in the area of Industrial Biotechnology. With a demonstrated understanding of this rapidly evolving field, the successful candidate will work with internal and external stakeholders to identify the strategies and implement the tactics to ensure the growth and sustainability of the Center of Excellence in Industrial Biotechnology. The position will report to Professor Andrew Zydney, Director of the Center of Excellence and will involve coordination with an existing communications professional who has 50% time devoted to the project along with other key personnel at the University. Working in concert with the Director of the Center of Excellence in Biotechnology, primary responsibilities include managing and evolving the existing plans to ensure that the Center’s primary objectives are met, working with faculty, staff, student advisors, and students spanning relevant Penn State Institutes, Academic Colleges, and The CSL Behring Fermentation Facility to ensure that internal stakeholder insights are gathered, aligned, and integrated into the Center’s short-term and long-term plans, devising and implementing a corporate engagement strategy to integrate external knowledge into internal plans, marketing initiatives, and communication strategies, identifying and building external pharmaceutical and biotechnology relations that may also include other similar independent or university-based programs, and overseeing programs and liaising with advisory boards that are identified as part of strategic and tactical planning to ensure that timelines are met, budgets are managed, appropriate knowledge and reports are disseminated, all in accordance with University rules and requirements. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred experience includes a Bachelor’s degree and experience within workplace settings that combines knowledge from a relevant technical discipline with strategic planning and tactical implementation, partnership-building, collaboration, and responsibility for project deliverables, and budget oversight. Candidates should have a proven record of working well in a team or on independent projects, being self-motivated and innovative, multi-tasking, and having excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year with excellent possibilities for renewed funding.
