Description

The Institute for CyberScience (ICS) seeks a talented and goal-oriented individual to join our team as a Systems Administrator (ICS-ACI Internal IT). You will be an integral contributor to a dynamic and growing team of specialists supported by an exciting $60 million Penn State investment in advanced research cyberinfrastructure (ICS-ACI). Penn State’s elite researchers use our high-performance research cloud to solve real-world problems by conducting simulations, data mining, and other high-performance computing operations. You will participate as an important member of our community of specialists to support this groundbreaking work. As our Systems Administrator, you will work as part of a team to: diagnose issues and develop & present specialized solutions; research and track patterns of problems and suggest automated remediation processes; identify computing needs and requirements; design, ensure proper operation of and administer systems, networks, operating systems and applications with the objective of providing robust and stable operating platforms with proper controls and security; develop and deliver training materials. Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience with: information technology and programming skills with the ability to support appropriate systems management assignments; ability to achieve and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction; exhibit a passion for learning and a willingness to continuously improve both themselves and our environment; ability to relay specialized concepts to non-specialized individuals; ability to work independently. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. We encourage applicants with additional qualifications to apply. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Skills in the following areas and technologies are desirable: working knowledge of a broad range of devices running Windows, OS X, Linux, and mobile device operating systems and associated software, Also excellent oral and written communication skills are desired. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher-level jobs. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
