Description

As a member of The Learning Center at Penn State Fayette, the Professional Writing Tutor provides academic support for students with writing assignments across the disciplines during all stages of the writing process. The Tutor will provide support through the Fall 2019 semester with possible continuation based on tutoring effectiveness, demand, and funding availability. A combination of scheduled and walk-in sessions in person and via Penn State Fayette’s Online Writing Lab, totaling 5 - 10 hours per week, is expected. The Tutor will report to the Learning Center Coordinator, provide individual and/or group tutoring sessions, and document sessions. Tutors will meet with the coordinator and instructors as needed to plan appropriate academic support for students and perform other duties consistent with the position of Professional Tutor, possibly including workshops and class visits. Also, the Tutor will integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize the student’s potential for academic progress and to promote independent learning, including referrals to other appropriate college resources as needed, and encourage students to develop a systemic approach to studying and competing assignments that will serve them in other courses. The Professional Tutor must demonstrate an ability to quickly establish rapport and communicate well with students and instructors. Qualified individuals will hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in English or a related subject area. Master’s degree in the subject area or a closely related field is preferred along with tutoring experience at the college level. Review will begin immediately, and the search will continue until suitable candidates are found.
