The Research Transition and Integration Center (RTIC) in the Communications, Information and Navigation Office (CINO) within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at The Pennsylvania State University (PSU) is looking for a talented and highly motivated Research Engineer to assist in the development, test, and transition of model and simulation systems to critical environments. You will become a team member and will interact with other ARL/PSU staff members, spending a majority of time working in a classified environment at an ARL facility located in Reston, VA. Responsibilities include working within an agile development environment with software developers, scrum master, and product owners to develop and deliver quality solutions. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (Professional Engineer license accepted in lieu of Bachelor's degree), or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or System Engineering is preferred. An Active TS//SCI clearance is highly desirable. Detailed knowledge of multiple programming languages, including Python, MATLAB, Java, C and/or C++, is also desired. Tasking will be performed within an AGILE process, so knowledge of continuous build integration and development operations is desired (DevOps). A self-starter comfortable working in a team environment is a must; therefore, excellent interpersonal, along with oral and written communication skills, are critical. Employment with the ARL will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. This is a one-year, fixed-term renewable appointment.
