Description

The Penn State College of Engineering seeks a Marketing and Communications Specialist to join the communications team, focusing on reporting, writing, and editing news and feature articles and press releases on the activities and accomplishments of faculty, staff, students, alumni, corporate partners, and other stakeholders. Reporting to the college’s Senior Manager of Marketing and Communication, the Marketing and Communications Specialist will also coordinate the development and distribution of external communications, including but not limited to direct email campaigns and promotional initiatives in support of equity in engineering, undergraduate and graduate recruitment, and more. The Marketing and Communications Specialist is also responsible for planning, writing, and editing content for college- and unit-level websites, as well as contributing to the development of newsletters, speeches, scripts, and presentations by top-level administrators. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, basic knowledge of best practices for graphic design, publication layout, and social media are preferred. Basic knowledge of photography and videography preferred. Comfort level using content management system preferred. As core competencies, the position demands inquisitiveness, creativity, and excellent communication skills, particularly related to content development and writing about technical and complex topics in a journalistic style. The successful candidate will be collaborative with excellent interpersonal skills and exquisite attention to detail; able to connect with a myriad of stakeholders across the college’s units, including administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and communications colleagues. Strong organizational and project management skills are required, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should be prepared to provide writing samples and examples of previous work. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
