Description

The laboratory of Scott Showalter in the Department of Chemistry, at The Pennsylvania State University, seeks to fill a postdoctoral research position in methods development for 13C direct-detect NMR spectroscopy of proteins in solution. Projects will involve NMR pulse programming, data acquisition and analysis, and the possibility of recombinant protein expression and purification. The ideal postdoc will have extensive experience in NMR spectroscopy, broadly defined; prior experience with either pulse programming or sample preparation are preferred but not required. The applicant must have recently received, or be scheduled to receive, a Ph.D. in an area broadly relevant to our research program by the time employment starts, but the Ph.D. need not be in Chemistry specifically. The individual should be highly self-motivated and is expected to lead their own individual projects as well as contribute to collaborative research efforts. Projects in the Showalter laboratory generally involve collaboration with colleagues in the Center for Eukaryotic Gene Regulation and throughout the Chemistry Department and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department, providing an enriching training environment for our postdoctoral researchers. Interested and qualified applicants must submit applications electronically to include a cover letter describing your background and prior training, a CV which includes a list of publications, and a brief statement (1-2 pages) of research interests. Following a screening of these initial application materials, appropriate candidates will be contacted by email and asked to arrange for three (3) letters of recommendation to be sent. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one-year from the date of hire with possibility of re-funding. Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
