Description

The Visualization Technology Department of the Synthetic Environment Applications Laboratory (SEALab) is seeking an intern for the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) Distinguished Undergraduate Research Program. Under the guidance of an ARL faculty member, students in this program will perform a comprehensive research project and receive training in advanced research methods. This position will support a variety of projects to develop and apply technical innovations that support our sponsors with improved situational awareness, data understanding, and decision making through the use of advanced visualization, simulation, multi-sensory human computer interfaces, and collaboration technologies. Typical duties will include programming application functionality, building 3D immersive synthetic environments, database ingest and analytics, and modeling and simulation. Experience with C, C++, C#, or Java programming languages is required. Strong programming skills and an interest in data visualization, modeling and simulation, database, GIS, and virtual reality/augmented reality applications are desired. Experience with GIS products/concepts, databases, 3D modeling, VR software products, Apache Tomcat/Apache HTTP, and JavaScript/HTML5 are also desired. The successful candidate will work up to 20 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters and 40 hours/week over the summer. Students entering their Junior year in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Sciences and Technology with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and above are encouraged to apply. As part of the ARL Distinguished Undergraduate Research Program, you will be required to formally present your research at the end of your final semester. Therefore, honors students will be encouraged to use the project research for meeting your honors thesis requirement. This is a paid internship located at the University Park campus; relocation and housing are not provided. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
