The Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences at Penn State, in association with the Centers for Infectious Disease Dynamics and the Applied Biological and Biosecurity Research Laboratory, is seeking an academic, non-tenure track Assistant Research Professor for the Global Health Research Scholar program. Exceptionally qualified candidates who wish to establish themselves as leaders in fields addressing critical scientific, technology, engineering, and social science needs for improving global health security through the reduction of infectious disease threats are encouraged to apply. This prestigious program will enable highly motivated scientists who hold doctoral or terminal professional degrees in relevant disciplines to work collaboratively with leading faculty at Penn State and at other partner academic, industry, not-for-profit, and governmental organizations throughout the world to help develop and implement cutting-edge research and training programs that provide real-world solutions to promote global health security through reduction of the spread of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance. The successful candidate will be expected to work with existing faculty on a growing portfolio of projects as well as to develop new extramurally funded programs from sponsors including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, US Agency for International Development, US Department of Defense, National Institutes of Health, philanthropic organizations and international agencies. Candidates will be selected based upon their research background, knowledge of fields and technologies related to promotion of global health security; demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills; evidence of prior project/program managerial and/or analytical skills is highly desirable. Duties include, but are not limited to, working with a diverse group of faculty, partners and other professionals within and outside of Penn State in order to effectively implement existing projects as well as develop and compete for new extramural funding opportunities of relevance to global health security; engage in extensive domestic and international travel; become an active and contributing member of various multidisciplinary technical teams executing and competing for global health security projects. All qualified candidate must have a doctoral or professional degree in a field of relevance to global health security; candidates with prior post-doctoral experience in global health related fields are preferred; have a documented track record of productivity and experience in a field of relevance to global health security; candidates with international work experience in emerging or endemic infectious disease or especially dangerous pathogens are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates will be expected to develop and lead an independent research program that supports their research and collaborate and publish with subject matter experts in various disciplines at Penn State and elsewhere. The successful candidate will have opportunities to train graduate students. Selected candidates might need to re-locate to the greater Washington DC area or be placed internationally as per the needs of the project.
