The John A. Dutton e-Education Institute in Penn State’s College of Earth and Mineral Sciences has an opening for an Instructional Production Specialist (IPS), Level 1 or Level 2. The Dutton Institute is the learning design unit for the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. We work in close partnership with the College's five academic departments to design, develop, and manage the College's online certificate and degree programs, as well as to support EMS faculty in the delivery of resident instruction offerings. As a member of the Dutton institute learning design team, the IPS will provide support to our Learning Design Team and collaborators; update and maintain information in internal administrative systems; update and maintain Web pages; ensure that course materials meet copyright and accessibility guidelines; and assist in the production and administration of the College’s online courses. This work requires one to possess strong time management skills while working on multiple projects. We are looking for an individual who can work well in a team environment, can be proactive in identifying and resolving issues with course materials, wants to exceed customer expectations, and is able to process many details in a highly organized, accurate, and efficient manner. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a High School diploma or higher , or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Experience using a learning management system such as Canvas and a content-management system such as Drupal is a plus. The IPS should be an effective multi-tasker in an environment that is constantly evolving to meet the needs of both resident and distance learners. The successful candidate should have a baseline level of technology skills related to Web production (for example: HTML, CSS), proficiency in Microsoft Suites Office, and a willingness to learn new and emerging technologies. This individual will also demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing, as well as a desire to provide excellent customer service.
