Description

The Energy and Environmental Sustainability Laboratories (EESL) invites applications for a Researcher to manage the day-to-day operation of a newly established Organics Research Laboratory. The Organics Laboratory provides organics analysis of various matrices including gas, water, soil/sediment, biologic, synthetic and geologic materials and supports multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research across hydrology, biogeochemistry, biology, archeology, food and plant science, materials science, oil and gas. Penn State faculty, staff, students, and external clients have access to this state-of-the-art core facility. The organics lab Researcher will collaborate and assist these entities to articulate research questions, apply and develop analytical techniques, prepare and analyze organics samples, interpret data, data acquisition, and data interpretation. The organics lab Researcher will be responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of high-resolution mass spectrometers, including a UHPLC Orbitrap MS –Q Exactive equipped with ESI, APCI and DART ionization source, a Triple Quadrupole GC-MS/MS equipped with a Pyroprobe, and a single Quadrupole GC/MS. The successful candidate must have a Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant field, a record of professional growth and scholarship in his/her discipline, excellent analytical, communication, and writing skills, and at least three years of hands-on experience working with high resolution LC/MS and GC/MS instrumentation. Demonstrated experience working with and training users on preparation techniques, instrumentation operation, data acquisition, and data interpretation is required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with the possibility of renewal. To apply, please submit a brief cover letter, resume, and three references.
