The College of Health and Human Development is seeking a highly motivated, customer-service focused team member to serve as a Facilities Specialist in a dynamic and diverse environment to support one of Penn State’s growing colleges. The college is currently organized into 8 academic departments and 6 college research centers, with roughly 900 faculty and staff members operating from 16 locations (13 on-campus, 3 off-campus). Utilization of these facilities ranges from standard office spaces to advanced, custom research laboratories. The successful candidate will be responsible for effective coordination with multiple units in Penn State’s Office of the Physical Plant (OPP) and external vendors to ensure construction and maintenance requests and approved projects satisfy established requirements. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: work order submission/follow-up, management of keys/key database, review of reservation requests for assigned spaces, coordination/update of unit emergency evacuation plans, advocacy for safety programs, coordination of requests to modify spaces/upgrade research capabilities and oversight of facility maintenance issues. Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated expertise dealing with complex situations and competing demands are necessary. The Facilities Specialist will report to the Director of Operations in the College of Health and Human Development Dean’s Office with primary duties that cover all aspects of building operation and maintenance for college facilities. This is a supervisory position with responsibility for hiring, managing, and evaluation of assigned technical-service employees. This includes the development of work schedules and oversight of prioritized assignments. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with construction projects/estimation, facilities maintenance, access control procedures, physical security, inventory management, and occupational safety is preferred. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are also preferred, as is the ability to work well both independently and within various teams. Proficiency with common computer applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
