The Department of Education Policy Studies seeks to fill a vital position in our Education Theory and Policy Program. The successful candidate will be part of the administrative team that supports department and academic program functions. This position is the primary administrative support for the Education Theory and Policy (EDTHP) and Comparative and International Education (CIED) graduate programs and the Education and Public Policy (EPP) undergraduate program, assisting and supporting all activities related to academic programs and faculty scholarship. Primary duties include building course schedules; monitoring course enrollments; coordinating the admissions process; monitoring student major requirements and degree progress; revisions to the graduate program handbooks and website information; communicating with graduate degree students about deadlines, policies, and procedures; maintaining program databases; and monitoring records for compliance with the retention policy. Additional duties include monitoring a small CIED budget; preparing graduate student offer letters; assisting with the promotion and tenure review process; coordinating special events, seminars and activities, including arrangements for facilities (on campus and off), supplies, technology and food service; serving on department, college and University committees as requested; and responding to routine and moderately complex questions/issues with a minimum of supervision. This position is the first point of contact for students interested in entering the Education Theory and Policy and Comparative and International Education program and requires regular contact with a diverse group of faculty and students, the Graduate School, and other University offices. Typically requires a High School diploma or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in the use of MS Word, Excel and Access are highly valued. Experience with information management systems (Campus Solutions/LionPath/iTwo/Digital Measures) and SAP/Concur is desirable. Knowledge of The Pennsylvania State University and Graduate School policies would be advantageous. Previous experience in an academic setting is helpful. Ideal candidates will have excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities with a high level of professionalism. The individual should be able to work both independently and collaboratively as a team member with a minimum of supervision and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in all its forms.
