Penn State University
The Criminal Justice Research Center (CJRC) seeks an Administrative Support Assistant who will assist with faculty research, outreach, and teaching needs at the CJRC’s location at Penn State Abington in Abington, PA (north of Philadelphia). The CJRC has been in operation for ten years and coordinates and supports research activities in the areas of criminology and criminal justice, to include agency partners at the local, state, and federal levels. Over the past decade the center has undertaken and fostered nearly three dozen funded projects in the areas of courts and sentencing, corrections, substance abuse research and policy and evaluation. The center has generated millions of dollars in extramural support for a wide range of high profile and high impact criminal justice research projects. This location of the CJRC is newly established, and the position will assist in developing the necessary systems to ensure optimal efficiencies at this location and with the potential to assist with expansion to other Penn State Commonwealth Campuses as the CJRC continues to grow. Major initiatives at this location involve addressing issues associated with drug trafficking networks, human trafficking networks, drug markets, drug policy, and stigma related to substance use. Duties of this position include gathering and entering travel reimbursements; meeting agendas and scheduling; hosting and coordinating public and internal events; developing, controlling, and monitoring faculty funding and grant proposal budgets; approving and processing payroll activities of student researchers; assisting in travel planning and budgeting; collecting and compiling data for periodic reports; supervising undergraduate office assistants; and interviewing, training, and supporting staff and student personnel. The Abington Administrative Support Assistant plays an important role in assisting with the preparation of grant proposals to external funders and with the monitoring of funded projects. This position will work directly with the University Park CJRC Administrative Assistant, as well as with Abington administrative entities to ensure maximum efficiencies. This position will primarily be tasked with supporting local needs but may be called upon to support needs for the Center across both locations in certain cases. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a High School diploma or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. This position requires the ability to work independently within a small organization.
