The Pennsylvania State University Building a Strong Identity and Coping Skills (BaSICS) research project is looking for a full-time Intervention Specialist in Harrisburg, PA, to master the BaSICS intervention curriculum and lead a team of facilitators to deliver the program with fidelity. BaSICS is a secondary prevention program for diverse, low-income pre-adolescents that promotes the development of effective coping skills, positive identity, and youth empowerment through a community change project, and is designed to prevent the development of depression and anxiety. Responsibilities include preparing, managing, organizing intervention materials, coordination with schools, supervising and training assistant facilitators, delivering a structured program to groups of early adolescents, managing behavior using positive reinforcement, communicating with parents daily, tracking intervention data, coordinating with school administrators, attending weekly team meetings, and administrative tasks as needed. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or education is preferred. Spanish language proficiency is highly desirable. The individual must be confident working with community members to complete community action projects. Experience delivering semi-structured therapeutic or educational curricula in a group setting with early adolescents is required. Additional requirements include very strong communication and organizational skills, comfort discussing emotions and difficult behaviors with young adolescents, and the capability to problem solve and reflect on performance. This is a fixed term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with a possibility of re-funding.
