Description

This position will be responsible to the Director for Undergraduate Recruitment for development and maintenance of student volunteer tour guide programs in support of recruiting and admission initiatives for the Undergraduate Admissions Office. Coordinate student volunteer programs in collaboration with other admission staff members and ensure the appropriate student involvement in recruiting efforts. Lead two student volunteer groups, providing management for a number of efforts including, but not limited to, the following areas: student volunteer recruitment, selection, training, scheduling, and advising. Help plan and execute on-campus admissions recruitment activities, specifically focused on managing student involvement and staffing of admissions events. Coordinate special recruitment activities as needed, including management of athletics tour guides. As a member of the visit team, the Student Volunteer Coordinator will work with admissions colleagues, other Penn State offices, and other student organizations to coordinate a high volume of events for prospective students and their families, focusing on creating events that will successfully recruit a diverse, talented student body. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer experience with knowledge of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Slate (or other CRM system), and Microsoft Office Suite is strongly preferred. This role will require a high level of interaction with current students, as well as the ability to work frequent evenings and weekends in support of events. A commitment to diversity and inclusion is required, as this role will work with a diverse student audience. In addition to the visitation work, this admissions counselor role will require candidates to recruit prospective students by presenting admissions information to groups of students and families. This position will render admission decisions, handle large volume of inquiries via email, telephone, and in-person meetings to advise prospective, applicant, and admitted students and families to make informed college-choice decisions. Candidates must be able to articulate undergraduate admission options at all campuses for all applicant types. Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and organizational skills are essential, with a desire to communicate with prospective students and their families about their Penn State options throughout the application process. The ability to manage concurrent projects and a high level of detail with accuracy is required. The ability to multitask is paramount. Demonstrated high level of customer service in high volume environment is critical. Extended hours and weekend work are required. This position requires operation of a motor vehicle as a part of job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
