Description

The Visual Analytics Department in the Visualization and Decision Support Division of the Communications, Information and Navigation Office (CINO) within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking Software Research and Development Engineer to join our team. As a software developer, you will be responsible for development, implementation, testing, and transitioning of Java/JavaScript based software systems to operationally critical environments. You will be responsible for architecting and implementing backend and front-end web services. You will help pioneer unique solutions to a wide array of sponsor requirements, all while working within an agile development environment with a team of top-notch developers. Responsibilities include interface with a wide variety of data storage and processing systems to support Extraction, Transformation, and Load (ETL) operations using SQL, NoSQL, and cluster computing technologies (Hadoop, Pig, etc). This job will be filled as a level 2, level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Sciences and Technology, or Engineering is preferred.
