The Autonomy, Perception & Cognition Department within The Communications, Information and Navigation Office (CINO) at The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking Research & Development Engineers in our University Park, PA facility. These positions will design, implement and test design software in support of sensor systems and robotics control system. The initial focus will involve OpenGL development. You will work closely with technical leads to ensure their work addresses program requirements. Responsibilities will include presenting the results of this work to various sponsor and peers and working closely with a diverse multidisciplinary team. This job will be filled as a level 1, level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (Professional Engineer license accepted in lieu of Bachelor's degree) or higher , or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Master’s Degree preferred. Knowledge of machine learning, LEABRA, artificial neural networks, robotics, sensor processing is desired. Programming experience with C/C#/Java, Python, ROS, Verilog or SystemVerilog, VHDL, OpenCV and Open CL is helpful. Linux, Soar, ACT-R, or related Cognitive Architectures helpful as well as Unity experience preferred. Experience in C++ programming, OpenGL, CUDA/GPU programming, object oriented design and design patterns as well as Visual Studio knowledge are required. Good written and verbal communication skills are a must. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply.
