As an HPC Software Consultant, you will work with Institute for Cyber Science(ICS) staff, faculty and research groups to assist them in advancing their research by: building, testing, and administering scientific software applications on ICS-ACI; troubleshooting issues related to a group’s research; aiding in the implementation of scientific applications and utilization of ICS-ACI; Preferred skills include: knowledge and use of Linux/UNIX based systems; optimizing and/or developing applications on Unix/Linux-based systems; programming in compiled/scripting languages such as C/C++, Fortran, Python, Julia, R, bash; packaging software, preferably with Redhat Package Management (RPM) or Spack; excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience; experience in providing customer service, preferably in a technical support/help desk environment; the ability to learn general concepts and technologies quickly and independently. This is an hourly/wage position with an hourly rate dependent upon experience for the Fall 2019 semester, and potentially beyond. Hours vary, and applicants must be willing to work ~20 hours per week including weekend hours.
